Alan and Bonnie Cohen
Anyone who has visited Jerusalem in the last 20 years has heard of Alan and Bonnie Cohen, a couple famous for their extraordinary Shabbat hospitality. Thousands of guests have poured into the Cohens' home in David's Village to experience their unique Oneg Shabbat, where literally hundreds of Jews from all backgrounds come each week to participate in and enjoy the beauty of the Holy Day, and often for the very first time.
The Cohens made aliyah from Los Angeles in 1995, bringing with them a passion for Torah and a dedication to the Jewish people. Alan began by volunteering vast amounts of time and business expertise as a member of Aish HaTorah's International Advisory Board, while Bonnie made it her personal mission to advance the growth of EYAHT, Aish HaTorah's College for Women, which greatly deepened Bonnie's connection to Torah and mitzvot.
Soon after meeting and learning with Rebbetzin Denah Weinberg, dean of EYAHT, Bonnie dedicated herself to building a new campus so that greater numbers of young Jewish women could benefit from EYAHT's high-caliber education. On June 9, 2014, after more than 10 years of volunteer-fundraising, Bonnie will see the fruits of her labor at the Grand Opening of the “Judy Dan Campus of EYAHT and the Susan Wilstein EYAHT Building,” in the beautiful Jerusalem neighborhood of Romema.
The Cohens remain dedicated to their original mission of helping build the Jewish people, both through their tremendous weekly Shabbat hospitality and their volunteer work with EYAHT. Alan currently serves as the Chairman of EYAHT's International Advisory Board, and Bonnie continues her impassioned role as EYAHT's International Chairwoman.
